Better known by the name of its main island, Tahiti, French Polynesia is actually made up of five island groups: the Society Islands, Austral Islands, Marquesas Islands, Tuamotu atolls and the Gambier Archipelago, also known as the Mangareva Islands. Legendary Tahiti, the isle of love, is renowned as a land of spellbinding beauty and enchantment, where the climate is always delightful. Relatively unchanged by the modern world and long considered as some of French Polynesia's "best kept secrets," the islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha'a, and the Tuamotu atolls lure travelers for their authentic Polynesian appeal, enhanced by world-class resorts, international cuisine and pure un-crowded beaches. The islands are rich in flora and fauna. Living in this lush tropical vegetation are around 90 species of birds while in the waters around the islands there's a whole world of marine life among the coral reefs, especially in the Tuamotus. Not only is the land renowned for its scenic splendour but is also the birth place of the tattoo and there has been a great resurgence in the last few years in this art. It is a souvenir that will last forever.
